The Knorr Stock cubes advertisement appear on my Instagram story very often and I find it very irritating as I have not search for anything related to cooking on my instagram. I personally think that the advertisement should only reach people who are interested in cooking and have searched for something similar to MSG. Social Media ads are for generating awareness fast, but Knorr is brand I think most Singaporeans are aware of thus no need to further introduce on social media ads. I would rather hold a roadshow campaign at the CBD area where many people are housewives or someone who wants to whip up a fast meal as the MSG can help them. The roadshow would compile of tasting soup made from stock cubes versus non stock cubes. Showing them the time saved from making soups from scratch which can honestly be a hassle. Knorr is also known for other MSG products such as MSG for frying etc. Chefs will be invited to whip up dishes for the busy office worker to taste. Local celebrities will also be invited to be a guest and have a casual chit chat session with office workers. Furthermore, I will also upload videos of the process during the roadshow on Facebook and show that Knorr is now healthier choice as we may have the stereotype to think that MSG is harmful and unhealthy. As Knorr is now a healthier choice option where many of us including me does not know that, will bring a different impression to how we see MSG after this campaign. I think overall, Knorr is already a well established brand here locally, they do not need to further continue social media advertisement, but a roadshow to let people get a closer look on the product that Knorr is selling.
Think about the last game you played. (This includes casual games on the mobile platform.) What do you think were the resources required for its creation?
The last game I played was Mobile Legends together with my friends, after I have enlisted, I was able to make friends easily with this games as many of them also played Mobile Legends. The resources firstly required would be a team of aspiring developers to start the engine. The team would include a Mastermind, graphic designer and programmer etc. To be able to create a game, creators must understand software engineering, computer science , graphic designing or typical fields that are required to become a game developer. Also I think that the most important resources would be creative ideas and money, to be able to come up with creative ideas then can the real development of the game start. I have seen many game developers played many games of the same category and for the game to be a hit, they have to do that so as to know what consumers want from a game. Next would be about money, money is one of the most important resources in the world, without money the developers will have a hard time in the long run thus they often look for sponsorship. In this industry, there is also a shady area whereby some sponsorship company tends to buy the creators ideas instead of sponsoring. Many who failed to buy over the ideas tend to abuse their power as they are a big company, they would threaten relevant party to cut ties and cooperation with the creators. Hence money is one of the most important resources for creating a game. To sum up, creating a game is not an easy task to do as many skills and manpower are required, not all of us are good enough to create a game so stop leaving low rating for developers as they are slowly improving the software, it is also a way to not put them down and give them an impression that they are not creating a good game.
Compare the various HTML authoring tools. Which do you think is the best to use? What are your reasons?
Today there are many HTML tools be it open or closed source. I personally feel the best to use would be Atom editor. Atom editor is a free open source program available at GitHub. Atom uses a free software license for their package and it is maintained by the GitHub community. They aim to offer a premium feel to the editor while keeping it completely free. As well as flexibility to customize the software itself. It comes with 81 built-in packages and you can add up to 7,500 additional installable packages. You can also develop your own package. Atom editor also supports Teletype which is an important feature if you want to collaborate with other developers in real time. One of the most important features to me would be Atom supports multiple panes, it can be split into many interface and can compare and write codes side by side. Many developers also choose Atomas the best HTML tools to use as it is very easy to customize, tweak how the interface looks and add other essential features. You can also build packages and themes from scratch. Or, simply install pre-made packages and themes from the community. You can also experiment this editor by adding features to the core system. More ideally, Atom is accessible through all operating system. One thing I found very interesting would be their tagline, they boast to be the most hackable text editor of the 21st century. It means that developers can contribute to edit, extend, change, and share the program source code as well as create their own packages to improve Atom. All in all, Atom is a very convenient for writing simple HTML text, as a lightweight program like Atom, it offers a very good balance of features and program size compared to big brands such as Microsoft.
Describe the user interface of a website, app or game that you find exceptionally intuitive. What were the qualities that made it so
Crisis Action is a mobile game that I have played since 2015, I think that the game is exceptionally intuitive. It has an interface that is very similar to a computer First Person Shooter (FPS) game, although it is made to be played on the mobile, their tutorial made it easy for first timers. The game is easy to play and non laggy, as a mobile gamer I find it irritating if a game is often laggy, I must commend the creator of this game for reading a gamer’s mind like mine which made it even more addictive. This games often gives out permanent seasonal weapons for players who are active for at least thirty minutes per day during the event date. This game also has new weapon every month for players to purchase with diamonds, diamonds are the type of monetary used for the game which has to be recharged with real money, the price of the new weapon is very attractive and recharging is as simple as one two three. I think the qualities that made it exceptionally intuitive would be the content of the game. With a variety of modes to choose to play such as the common team deathmatch, search and destroy to entertainment match like zombie and paintball mode. My friends and I found it very addictive when it first launch, they also organize an eSports competition every year where social media such as facebook and twitch. They usually used these platforms to do a live commentary. I personally think the best highlight for this game would be recharge a small amount to get bonus diamonds up to 20x, which is very rare for a mobile game to do that regularly. Another reason this game is intuitive because whenever there is an issue, customer service function is easily accessible where emails will be sent to them and reply comes in less than an hour.
What do you think of click bait as it is used on the various online media? Is the use of it justified?
I think clickbait used on online media is a really common sign nowadays as content creators needs audience to generate clicks in order to earn money. It is quite understandable but to a certain extent, some content creators just don’t provide any content relevant to their thumbnail or title. Take Youtubers from malaysia for example, we shall name him Dan, Dan often use thumbnail and title for example: ‘I bought a One Million dollar mansion’ when his content was just going to some random mansion which was introduced only briefly and the rest of the videos would be him talking about irrelevant stuff not related to his title. Those understandable one would be using pretty girls and thumbnail for clickbait. As they fully show what we wanted to see in the content that was created, and was relevant to the title that was introduced. We are also not eligible to judge as it is their job to produce clickbait to manipulate us viewers to click. However for me personally since I’m in a Digital marketing course for my diploma, I will also have to create clickbait to generate online advertising revenue, especially at the expense of quality or accuracy, relying on sensationalist headlines to attract click-throughs and to encourage forwarding of the material over online social networks. That being said, I’m also afraid as content marketing is all about generating traffic, I’m afraid that I will not be able to attract visitors to my site. If you ask me is it justifiable, depends on how different people see it. From a financial point of view, yes it is justifiable as clickbait is a source of rice bowl for content creators. From the audience point of view, some may be justifiable, but some just make viewers anticipate to disappoint, as I had mentioned above.
What would be a cause which you feel most strongly about? How would you create awareness using only digital platforms? What would be your intended result?
Hawker food would be a cause I feel most strongly about as a lot of old hawker are retiring with nobody to inherit to carry on the hawker industry, most of the time the get forgotten over times. Not many youngsters nowadays would want to carry on the tradition of being hawker from the previous generation. Many of them prefer to work in an air-conditioned place. With no new blood taking over, it is almost like a lost baby that no one wants to look after. Another reason for the hawker culture in danger of fading in the sunset would be lack of knowledge on how to market their food and therefore lesser exposure to people. I can create advertisements on digital platforms such as facebook, twitter, instagram, youtube and other popular applications to create awareness for the hawker stalls and introduce their signature dish. As many younger generation owns a smartphone, they are more likely to use the application mentioned above so they are more prominent to see the advertisement which will generally be targeted at them which will raise their curiosity to try the food, hence exposing the hawker to be more recognized. More hawkers can also be equipped with features like cashless payments for hasslefree transaction and saving times from finding and keeping loose change. My intended result will be more people to recognize the effort of hawker and hawker food. My intention is also to change the perspective of the younger generation where hawker center is hot and unhygienic as many hawker center are now equipped with fans and hawker have to go through Food Hygiene course to able to operate. Also if they feel like carrying on the hawker business, they are worth to give it a try and hope that future generations will still be able to see the tradition of hawker center.
Are you a member of the Creative Class? What makes you able to fit in this category? What are your shortcomings and how would you address them?
Sometimes I ask myself, am I a member of the creative class. A member of the creative class is someone who actively participate in content creation. I think I consider myself as a member of the creative class in fact the majority of us are because we are living in a digital age world, I too create content by taking pictures and editing them nicely and after that posting pictures or videos on platform like facebook, instagram etc… I also interact by replying to comments from my acquaintance. So I think I fit to be in creative classes category as I share content that I created online to share with people online. However, nobody is perfect, I too have shortcomings as well but I think I will be able to rectify it by addressing my shortcoming correctly. My shortcomings would be unprofessionally taking and editing pictures as I’m only a novice. I can address this issue by taking classes to learn photography as a hobby, by doing so can encourage me and many others more to create more creative content. Another of my shortcoming would be unoriginal content as I only get inspiration after seeing something online. But I’m pretty sure many of us create content through inspiration of others as well which in my point of view is not a bad thing, as we can improve on someone’s content by giving it a tiny bit of changes. I also lack commitment in doing something for a period of time as interest dies out and probably get distracted with something that I have never tried before as I’m a sagittarius, I usually am more attracted to look for fresher stuff which is relatively new to me. To sum up, anyone can be a member of the creative class with more practise and confidence as it takes courage to share your created content.
How would you make yourself viable in terms of knowledge and capabilities in a knowledge economy?
The knowledge economy is a concept that overturns the social classes, it is a system that related to intellectual capital. The production of goods and services in this economic system are mainly based on knowledge activities. The knowledge economy is a competitive environment however it helps the society grows in a good way. So having a knowledge economy system in a country is important, it is the method that could support a country to compete with other countries. Possessing strong communication is also very important as this is very advantageous to those who want to build relations as relationships are bound to meet into hiccups along the way and with my capabilities, I can easily solve the issue on hand regarding customer and suppliers’ relation. In addition to my communication skills, I am also a very creative person who is able to think out of the box. This is valuable as I am able to think of new ideas and ways to improve current products and even new products. This is an asset to companies who want to venture out into new products or wish to build another improved version of their current ones. One example would be upgrading their websites or creating a viral video to attract potential customers and using new marketing tools to help get their company’s name out to others who have not heard it before, which will lead to a bigger market to target. A number of different skills are required to stay viable in a knowledge economy. Education is extremely important, as expert knowledge is valued in such an economy. Staying up to date with technological advancements and developments in relevant fields of knowledge is essential. Communication skills are also extremely important, as the sharing of information is one of the most important activities in a knowledge economy. I would also sometimes read electronic newspapers and watch news whenever I have free time to learn about new technologies that are being introduced.
What constitutes cyber bullying? In what ways does it manifest? How would you react if you were the target of cyber bullying?
Cyberbullying is electronic thugs who hide behind keyboard or computer shaming or saying something negative about a person. Usually uploading embarrassing videos or pictures of cyber victim on social media such as facebook, so that peers or acquaintances can manipulate stuff and shame him/her. However the bullies will only find target who are weaker than them. The exact reason of why people do cyberbullying is unknown. Revenge motivated some individuals to do cyber bullying. Being victims of bullying in daily lives make them think harassing other people is only something that is natural as some people deserve to be bullied. Occasionally, it is not enough. Some individuals would bully only to boost their egos. These individuals simply harass others to entertain themselves and their friends who might also be a bully for a high chance, not scared of getting caught as these individuals believe they will not. Attention is what these people want. There is a chance they did not gain it from their family, some are suffering from a family conflict. Most are starving for the recognition of being powerful figures. Being an arrogant one is, some bully to remind others of their social status which they believe are lower than theirs. Some do it because the people around them are doing it as well. It is said that kids see it as a trend. If one does not do it, others who are doing it would think that the ones who are not doing it are incompatible with them, another reason for them to bully the ones who are not doing it. If I’m the target of cyberbullying, I would not stay still and let them bully me, as my size is big I can use my strength and get whatever embarrassing video or pictures deleted. But doing so will not solve problems as I would be no different to them, alternatively I can report it to the police or parents and maybe even teachers. They would definitely not sit back and do nothing. We are in a world of technologies and social media, we can all learn to stop cyberbullying by learning the right way of using the internet that is a privilege to us today.
Describe your attachment to technology and social media. Would you be able to go back to a time without such technology?
I am living in the 21st century where we have to learn to be tech-savvy or else you would feel left out. I would say I’m very attached to technology and social media as I can catch the latest episode of drama or variety show with me devices such as phones, tablet and laptop. I would also regularly refresh my news feed on social media to check on the status of my friends. It can also be a topic to talk with my friends when we meet. In my opinion, everyone who owns a smart device with social media accounts will not be able to go back to a time without such technologies. I’m one of them. I can say without my friends or family for a day i can survive, but without my phone, I would feel like the time is passing very slowly. I cannot imagine a world without technologies and social media, our ancestors lived through the period of time without it and they said it was better without it. As more people are relying on smart devices nowadays, my grandparents said we are losing alot of communication between people. Instead we are just talking with our phones. But in this century, without technologies and social media will be considered as outdated. For example the school uses projector and desktop to teach students. Kids nowadays are all holding a smart phones in their hands as if it was our toy guns or barbie doll when we were their age. I doubt many of us are unable to go back to a time where there is no technologies and social media while living in a first-world nation. All in all, we have surpassed the period where technologies and social media were unreal as our everyday lives consist of them, we are embracing the future with better technologies.
